Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has hailed President Bola Tinubu for providing Nigeria with bold, conscious leadership, urging Nigerians to support his re-election in 2027 to further advance the nation’s progress. Speaking at the unveiling of the multimillion-naira Renewed Hope International Market in Igode, Sagamu Local Government Area, Daniel also launched the BATOGD Movement to rally support for Tinubu’s second term and distributed empowerment tools, including deep freezers, sewing machines, and motorcycles, to constituents.
Daniel commended Tinubu’s systematic approach to rethinking Nigeria’s economy, redirecting national policies, and tackling controversial issues with courage. “For the first time, we have a leader who confronts past missteps to chart a new path forward,” he said, citing the fuel subsidy removal as a key step in addressing scarcity and the stabilization of the foreign exchange market as evidence of Tinubu’s bold reforms. While acknowledging ongoing challenges, he emphasized that Tinubu’s leadership deserves continued support to consolidate a stable and prosperous Nigeria.
The Senator urged the 36 state governors to effectively utilize the increased funds allocated to states and local governments following the subsidy removal, noting that their allocations have risen significantly. He called on Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun to tar the road leading to the Lagos border to enhance access to the new market, which was funded personally to make it motorable.
Beyond his legislative efforts, including sponsoring bills for the creation of Ijebu-Remo State and the Southwest Commission, Daniel highlighted his achievements over the past two years, such as providing grants to over 5,000 petty traders, facilitating 3,000 free cataract surgeries, and distributing tractors, fertilizers, and motorcycles. He stressed that the BATOGD Movement underscores his unwavering support for Tinubu, with whom he has shared a 30-year relationship, describing the President as a “bastion of democracy” who deserves widespread support.
Daniel also cautioned that the proposed Ijebu-Remo State could face setbacks if not actualized before 2027, particularly if he is not re-elected to the Senate, as unfinished initiatives often restart under new leadership at the National Assembly. He urged constituents to support his continued representation to ensure progress.
The Oba of Igode, Jamiu Sule-Onosipe, praised Tinubu and Daniel for establishing the market, marking the community’s first federal presence in centuries. He noted its potential to boost the local economy and benefit underserved rural areas, while appealing for state and federal support to construct the Gbaga–Fakale–Igode–Eyin-Ogbe Oke–Igbodo road to improve connectivity with neighboring Lagos communities.
