Google Maps has updated its database to reflect the renaming of Charly Boy Bus Stop in Bariga, Lagos State, to Olamide Badoo Bus Stop, honoring the renowned rapper Olamide Adedeji. The change, announced in July 2025 by Kolade Alabi David, Chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA), is part of an initiative to celebrate local and national icons who have elevated Bariga’s and Nigeria’s global reputation.
Other renamings include Ilaje Road to King Sunny Adé Road, Bariga Road to Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, Community Road in Akoka to Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road, Ajidagan Street to Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street, Ifeanyi Street to Abolore Akande (9ice) Street, Ayodele Street in Ladi-Lak to Tony Tetuila Street, and Ilojo Crescent in Obanikoro to Bukayo Saka Crescent. Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, confirmed the Google Maps update on October 8, 2025.
The renaming has sparked mixed reactions. Some, like @folashade_aduke, praised it as a blend of cultural heritage and modern recognition, while @thejidetaiwo noted Olamide’s deep ties to Bariga and his global influence.
However, critics like @MAgbogidi argued that Charly Boy Bus Stop is a longstanding local identity, and repeated renamings—previously to 2nd Pedro Bus Stop—have failed to stick, calling the move a “political gimmick.” @Nobsdaslushhid and @jeomaltd emphasized Charly Boy’s enduring legacy, linked to his family name and Justice Oputa’s heritage, questioning the need for change.
