Governors Endorse Bill for Reserved Women’s Seats in Nigerian Legislature

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has announced full support for a bill proposing reserved seats for women in the National and State Assemblies to enhance female representation in governance. In a statement issued after their Friday meeting on October 24, 2025, the governors urged federal and state lawmakers to back the legislation, which seeks to amend the 1999 Constitution by creating special constituencies exclusively for women candidates.

The NGF also praised the Federal Government’s fiscal policies, particularly those led by the Central Bank of Nigeria, for stabilizing the economy, pledging continued collaboration with federal authorities. Additionally, the governors committed to working with the Department of State Services to address rising security challenges and strengthen national security.
