Gunmen Abduct Pastor’s Wife, Church Member in Nasarawa Hours After Kidnapping Governor’s Aide.

Suspected kidnappers abducted Mrs. Patience Nasamu, wife of Pastor Samuel Nasamu, and a female church member in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, on Sunday, September 22, 2025. The attack occurred around 8:15 p.m. when armed men stormed the pastor’s residence, hours after the abduction of Dr. Muhammed Egye Osolafia, Senior Special Assistant on Humanitarian Services to Governor Abdullahi Sule.

Pastor Nasamu recounted that he had briefly stepped out to pray for a sick church member when his wife, who is nursing a three-month-old baby, called him in distress, praying aloud. By the time he returned, the assailants had taken his wife and the visiting church member, leaving the baby behind. The attackers, unable to break in initially, fired shots into the air, forcing Mrs. Nasamu to open the door. Earlier that evening, around 7:00 p.m., suspicious individuals on motorcycles were spotted in the community, followed by gunshots.

No contact has been made by the kidnappers, and police have visited the scene, urging calm as investigations continue.

The earlier abduction of Dr. Osolafia occurred on Saturday night in Tudun Amba, Lafia, when gunmen, firing sporadically, abducted him as he approached his residence. Mr. Peter Ahemba, Senior Special Adviser on Public Affairs, described the incident as “sad and unfortunate.”

Kidnapping cases have surged in Lafia and other parts of Nasarawa despite police efforts. Security experts link the rise to an influx of displaced persons from bandit-affected states and military operations in neighboring Benue, pushing criminals into Nasarawa. Governor Sule recently warned officials against interfering to free suspected kidnappers in custody.
