#Gunmen Open Fire at Florida State University, Leaving One Dead and Six Injured in Broad Daylight Attack

Chaos erupted at Florida State University (FSU) on Thursday when at least two gunmen stormed the Tallahassee campus in a brazen midday shooting that left one person dead and six others injured. The horrific scene played out like a battlefield, with screams, sirens, and gunfire echoing across the grounds—much of it captured in harrowing videos that quickly spread across social media.

One suspect has been arrested, authorities confirmed, while the motive behind the deadly assault remains unknown. A second suspect may still be at large, though law enforcement officials have not yet released further details.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of terror and confusion as students and staff scrambled for cover.

“He shot like two in our direction,” said Max Jenkins, a student who witnessed the incident. “I saw a girl go down and get stretchered off… I hope she made it.”

Jenkins also recounted how one of the gunmen fired at a maintenance worker who tried to raise the alarm before turning his weapon on a crowd.

Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare confirmed that all six injured victims suffered gunshot wounds. One remains in critical condition, while the others are being treated for serious injuries.

Initial reports, based on unverified police sources, erroneously claimed up to five fatalities. That figure has since been corrected to one confirmed death, though officials have not ruled out the possibility of a rising toll.

President Donald Trump was briefed shortly after the incident and described the attack as “a shame” and “a horrible thing,” promising further comment as more information emerges.

Founded in 1851, FSU is one of the oldest and most prestigious public universities in Florida, with an enrollment of nearly 45,000 students. It has produced notable alumni such as actor Burt Reynolds and rock legend Jim Morrison. But on Thursday, the university’s proud history was overshadowed by tragedy.

Security has been ramped up across the 485-acre campus as investigators comb the scene for evidence. Meanwhile, the FSU community is reeling from the trauma, grappling with how a place of education and safety became the site of a deadly shooting.

“This is not supposed to happen here,” one student murmured through tears. “This is our school, our home.”

As the investigation unfolds, Tallahassee joins the growing list of American cities devastated by gun violence in educational institutions—once again prompting painful questions about safety, security, and the enduring scourge of campus shootings.
