Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has shared an early-career experience where a senior Nigerian international turned him away at a hotel room door during his first national team call-up in 2017, before Kelechi Iheanacho stepped in to welcome him.
Osimhen revealed the story during a Twitch livestream with comedian Carter Efe, speaking from Nigeria while recovering from a broken arm sustained in Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League match against Liverpool.
He explained that he went to Iheanacho’s hotel room to pay his respects, only to be stopped by the room’s other occupant.
“When I got to his room — I don’t want to mention the name — he had a roommate, and he bounced me out of the room,” Osimhen recalled.
He noted that Iheanacho was displeased upon learning what happened. “Iheanacho came, angry, and said, ‘you see that someone came to see me and you are chasing him from my room.’ He then took my hand and brought me inside,” Osimhen said.
The incident took place during Osimhen’s early appearances with the Super Eagles, years before he became one of Africa’s top strikers.
