Humphrey Nwosu: A Hero of Democracy Bows Out
The nation mourns the passing of Professor Humphrey Nwosu, a distinguished statesman, scholar, and the courageous former Chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC). He was a pivotal figure in Nigeria’s democratic journey, best remembered for his unwavering commitment to free and fair elections, particularly during the historic June 12, 1993 presidential election.
A man of integrity and principle, Nwosu’s leadership in conducting what is widely regarded as Nigeria’s most credible election remains a defining moment in the country’s political history. Though the election was tragically annulled, his efforts laid the foundation for future democratic reforms and inspired generations of Nigerians to uphold the values of justice, transparency, and democracy.
As he departs to join his ancestors at the age of 83years, we honor his legacy, his courage, and his invaluable contributions to the nation. His name will forever be etched in the annals of Nigeria’s democratic struggle.

Burial arrangements as announced by family in Washington D.C, Yar’adua Centre Abuja, Ajali Orumba North LGA, Anambra State where he will be laid to rest in his residence.
