Iran’s newly appointed supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has made his first public address, calling on citizens to remain united amid the challenges brought by recent conflicts.
Mojtaba assumed leadership following the death of his father, former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an airstrike involving Israel and the United States. In his statement, broadcast on state television, he offered condolences to families affected by the conflict and pledged that damages would be addressed.
He linked the nation’s suffering to his own personal losses, revealing that he lost his father and wife, while his sister lost both her child and husband. Khamenei emphasized that faith, patience, and national unity are crucial to overcoming these trials.
He also commended the resilience of the Iranian people for standing together against external adversaries and vowed to seek justice for those killed, asserting that the loss affects the entire nation.
Following his appointment, the Iranian military and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps pledged loyalty to Mojtaba Khamenei, with support also coming from allied groups such as the Houthis in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
