‘I DON’T SAY WHAT I CAN’T PROVE’: FAYOSE RELEASES EVIDENCE OF MAKINDE’S ALLEGED ₦50BN FROM TINUBU

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has shared alleged evidence showing that Governor Seyi Makinde received ₦50 billion from the federal government meant for victims of the January 2024 Ibadan explosion.

Fayose had previously claimed that Makinde received the sum as an intervention fund. Makinde had challenged Fayose to produce proof of the payment. In response, Fayose stated that only ₦4.5 billion was released to the victims, alleging that Makinde diverted the remaining funds, along with others, to further his presidential ambitions—fueling tensions within the PDP and his criticisms of President Tinubu.

In a statement, Fayose said, “Even though it is not in my character to go public with official government documents, I had to do this so that Nigerians will know who is saying the truth and who has not been sincere with the people of Oyo State.”

Fayose also criticised Makinde for disclosing part of his private meeting with President Tinubu on national television without revealing full details. He insisted it was the duty of Nigerians to provide full disclosure.

The former governor went further, daring Makinde to take legal action over the revelations and warning that he has evidence of other intervention funds received by Oyo State from Tinubu’s administration that were not disclosed to the citizens. He added, “Also, there are documentary evidences on the actual Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Oyo State, as against Governor Makinde’s claim, but we will keep our gunpowder dry for now.”

Fayose concluded, “My name is still Ayo Fayose, I don’t say what I can’t prove.”

The released evidence shows correspondence and documents backing Fayose’s claims.

Wike and Makinde were among the G5 governors who supported Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election, despite being members of the PDP. Since the election, their relationship has soured, with both backing different factions within the party. Fayose continues to openly support President Tinubu and APC Governor Oyebanji of Ekiti over PDP candidates.
