“I’ve Decided To Run”: Ex-Buhari Minister Malami Announces Kebbi Governorship Bid

Former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State.

Speaking in an interview with DCL Hausa on Monday, Malami said he enjoys strong grassroots support and is entering the race to “save Kebbi State,” not for personal gain. He added that while INEC rules prevent early mobilisation, his supporters’ strength will become clear when campaigns officially begin.

“I have agreed to contest, and there is no retreat. God willing, we will win because the people believe in us,” he said.

Malami criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of worsening hardship at both state and national levels. He noted that insecurity has driven farmers off their land and forced long-standing rice mills to shut down due to policies favouring foreign companies.

He vowed to tackle insecurity, revive agriculture, and prioritise the people’s welfare if elected.

Since President Tinubu assumed office, several prominent figures from the Buhari administration — including Lauretta Onochie, Chibuike Amaechi, Rauf Aregbesola, and Malami — have fallen out with the APC. Many have now aligned with the African Democratic Party (ADC), a coalition aiming to challenge Tinubu in 2027.Headline news
