Speaking during plenary on Thursday, Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, stated that current governors now receive about four times the amount that was available to states when he was in office. According to him, the higher allocations provide governors with greater financial capacity to execute development projects and extend government presence to grassroots communities.

He expressed optimism that the increased resources would be managed wisely and used effectively to advance development across the states. Reflecting on his time as governor, Akpabio remarked that today’s governors have more opportunities due to the improved funding available to them.

He noted that with significantly larger allocations, state leaders are better positioned to drive infrastructure growth and deliver democratic dividends to their people.
