Former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.), has raised nearly ₦17 billion from the launch of his autobiography, A Journey in Service, unveiled in Abuja on Thursday.
The bulk of the donations came from Nigeria’s business elite, with Aliko Dangote leading the contributions, pledging ₦8 billion—₦2 billion annually for four years. Billionaire industrialist Abdulsamad Rabiu followed with a ₦5 billion donation.
Other prominent figures, including Folorunsho Alakija, also contributed, though some donors opted not to disclose their amounts publicly.
In the book, Babangida reflects on key moments in his career, including his controversial decision to annul the June 12, 1993, presidential election. He admitted that the late Chief MKO Abiola had won, describing the annulment as the most difficult decision of his life.
