President Bola Tinubu held a closed-door security meeting with Nigeria’s service chiefs and the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

The nearly two-hour session marked IGP Disu’s first participation in such a high-level briefing since assuming office on February 28, 2026.
Security chiefs arrived discreetly without official vehicles and departed after extensive deliberations with the President.

The meeting took place against the backdrop of a surge in attacks on military positions and personnel, particularly in the North-East, where Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have intensified operations.

In the past week, at least three commanding officers leading forward operating bases were reportedly killed in coordinated assaults on security formations.
Recent incidents include attacks in Ngoshe, Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok in Borno State, some involving abductions and destruction of military assets.

Although official details of the discussions were not disclosed, the meeting is believed to have focused on the recent spike in violence against security forces, protection of vulnerable communities, and enhanced coordination among Nigeria’s security agencies.

The consultation followed earlier assurances from President Tinubu that his administration remains fully committed to defeating insurgency and restoring peace across the country.
