IGP DISU VISITS BORNO FOLLOWING BOMB EXPLOSION, MEETS VICTIMS, INSPECTS DAMAGE

The Indigenous Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, visited Borno State on Tuesday following a recent bomb explosion that left several people injured. During his visit, he met with victims receiving medical treatment, expressing deep sympathy and reassurance to affected residents.

Disu was welcomed by the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Usman Umar Kadafur, who praised the IGP’s swift response. “For an incident that happened last night and for you to be on the ground this morning is a sign of seriousness,” Kadafur said, noting that the visit boosted the morale of the state’s residents. He added that Disu’s presence underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of Borno citizens and reaffirmed the state government’s cooperation with security agencies.

The Commissioner of Police in Borno, CP Nazir Abdulmajeed, also welcomed the IGP and conveyed condolences to victims and residents affected by the attack.

As part of his assessment, the IGP inspected the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where victims are receiving treatment, and visited Monday Market, the epicenter of the blast, to gauge the extent of the damage. He also held strategic meetings with the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mobile Force, to discuss strengthening security operations in the state.

Addressing officers of the Borno State Police Command, Disu urged heightened vigilance, improved intelligence gathering, and proactive policing. He reassured residents of the police’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while calling on the public to remain security-conscious and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

The IGP further pledged support for officers through the provision of essential security equipment and logistics to enhance operational efficiency. His visit comes amid intensified efforts to reinforce security across the North-East region and prevent future attacks.
