IGP Expands Police Directorates, Appoints AIG Nkechi Eze as Head of New Medical Directorate

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has expanded the structure of the Nigeria Police Force with the creation of the Force Medical Services Directorate.

According to a statement by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, the IGP also approved the appointment of AIG Nkechi Eze, BDS, MPH, as the pioneer Director of the new Directorate. The move is part of ongoing police reforms aimed at improving personnel welfare and operational efficiency.

AIG Eze, a seasoned clinician and dental surgeon with over 27 years of experience, holds degrees from Obafemi Awolowo University and the University of Benin. She has served in various formations across Nigeria, contributing significantly to police healthcare advancement.

While congratulating her, IGP Egbetokun urged AIG Eze to use her experience to establish the Directorate as a model for effective police healthcare delivery. He described the initiative as a “strategic investment” in the health and productivity of police personnel.

The Nigeria Police Force, established under Sections 214 and 215 of the 1999 Constitution, operates under a structured hierarchy led by the Inspector-General of Police. The command chain flows from the IGP to Deputy Inspectors-General, Assistant Inspectors-General, Commissioners of Police, and subordinate ranks down to constables.

Administratively, the Force consists of eight departments, each handling key areas such as:

Finance and Administration

Operations

Logistics and Supply

Criminal Investigation (FCID)

Training and Development

Intelligence

Research and Planning

Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

ADS 7

The new Medical Services Directorate adds to this structure, reflecting the IGP’s commitment to modern, welfare-driven policing in line with global standards.
