I’M NOT IN POSITION TO OPPOSE TINUBU’S CANDIDACY IN 2027, SAYS OTTI

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has dismissed speculations that he plans to challenge or oppose President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.

Speaking during his monthly media chat on Friday, the Labour Party governor downplayed the claims, describing them as unnecessary distractions fueled by individuals trying to create tension where none exists.

His remarks come in response to comments by a lawmaker representing Isialangwa North and South, Ginger Onwusibe, who had earlier stated that Otti would not oppose Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Otti criticised those he described as “so-called opposition figures” for spreading unfounded narratives, insisting that such claims do not reflect his position.

The governor’s rise to power in the 2023 election marked a major political shift in Abia State, ending the Peoples Democratic Party’s 24-year dominance. Running under the Labour Party, his victory was later affirmed by the courts despite multiple legal challenges.

He also used the opportunity to dismiss ongoing rumours about a possible defection, reaffirming his commitment to his current political platform.
