Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has dissociated himself from the recent expulsion of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

At the party’s national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, the PDP expelled Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and eight others for alleged anti-party activities and actions said to be causing disunity within the party. Delegates from 17 states were present at the convention, where the decision was unanimously adopted.

PDP chieftain Bode George moved the motion for the expulsion of the 11 members, citing conduct he described as contrary to the party’s collective interest.
Reacting, Governor Fintiri issued a statement rejecting the move. He said he does not support the expulsion of Wike and believes the decision does not serve the party’s long-term stability. According to him, further punitive actions could deepen existing divisions within the PDP.

Fintiri stressed that he remains committed to peace, reconciliation, and unity within the party, urging stakeholders to prioritise healing and cohesion over sanctions. He reiterated that his stance is driven by the need to prevent the PDP from sliding into a deeper crisis.

The PDP has grappled with internal conflict since losing the 2023 general elections, with factions emerging and disputes spilling into courtrooms and public debates. Some critics have accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of influencing the turmoil within the opposition, an allegation the president has denied, insisting it is not his role to resolve the PDP’s internal matters.
