The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognised the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

Mohammed’s faction, supported by Nyesom Wike, is now listed on INEC’s website as the legitimate leadership of the party. Other recognised members include Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, Ahmed Mohammed as National Treasurer, Daniel Woyengikuro as National Financial Secretary, and Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade, SAN, as National Legal Adviser.

The recognition follows a national convention held at Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, where over 2,000 delegates from across Nigeria elected Mohammed and his team. The event saw the attendance of notable political figures including former Senate President Bukola Saraki and ex-governors Ayodele Fayose, Okezie Ikpeazu, and Samuel Ortom.

The PDP has faced a prolonged internal leadership crisis, with two factions emerging. One faction, led by Tanimu Turaki and backed by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, has disputed the legitimacy of Mohammed’s group. Legal battles over the party’s conventions have ensued, including the November 2025 Ibadan convention, which was later restrained by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

On March 23, a three-member panel of the Court of Appeal dismissed an appeal challenging the High Court’s jurisdiction, reaffirming that the Ibadan convention violated constitutional provisions guiding party conduct. The Turaki faction has since taken the matter to the Supreme Court to contest the ruling.
