INSECURITY: NEW APPROACHES WILL BRING DESIRED RESULTS, TINUBU ASSURES NIGERIANS

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the ongoing adjustments to the country’s security framework will soon produce positive results.

He gave the assurance during a meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his residence in Lagos.

The President said his administration remains committed to restoring peace and prosperity despite the challenges posed by bandits and insurgents who employ guerrilla tactics. He stressed that the government is not relenting in its efforts to address insecurity across the country.

Tinubu explained that plans are underway to establish state and community policing as part of long-term measures to improve security nationwide. He noted that some of the initiatives being implemented require time to fully take effect.

According to him, although the country faces serious security challenges, particularly in ungoverned spaces, the situation will be overcome with cooperation, vigilance, and collective effort. He added that legislative processes at the National Assembly are ongoing to make state and community policing a reality.

The President also spoke on efforts to strengthen the military, noting that acquiring military hardware is expensive and time-consuming. He revealed that orders for attack helicopters from the United States are pending delivery and that Nigeria has also sought assistance from Turkey.

Tinubu acknowledged that delays in deploying new equipment may affect public perception but maintained that his administration remains focused on returning the nation to stability.

Commenting on the recent abduction and release of schoolchildren in Niger and Kebbi states, he said attention should be on the outcome rather than the process, stressing that the safety of the children was the priority.

In his response, CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh pledged the association’s support for the President and his administration. He commended Tinubu’s commitment to addressing security and socio-economic challenges, describing the task as difficult but achievable.

Archbishop Okoh said the Christian community is ready to work closely with the government, noting that the administration’s approach has improved relations between the Church and the state. He, however, appealed for sustained engagement with CAN through its structures across all local government areas and requested the release of funds to the Christian Pilgrims’ Board to enable it to carry out its duties.

Other members of the CAN delegation also attended the meeting and expressed support for the government’s efforts to tackle insecurity and promote national unity.
