The reason for the attack is yet to be ascertain as at the time of filing this report.

Some of the locations where the attacks took place according to eyewitness include; Central market, Amamuruegede, Eziama, Umuakpa, and Eke-well among others.

Narrating the incident, a source who pleaded for anonymity said; “We saw men in a security uniform. They came in with about eight security vehicles fully armed. They drove in at about 4:30 pm.

“When we saw them people were afraid. As it was getting dark, all of a sudden they shot in the air and people started running. They went straight to some selected houses and shops and put fire on the buildings. They burnt more than ten houses.”

“As I am talking to you now, many people have abandoned their houses and fled into the bushes. Some of us don’t know the whereabouts of our children and wives. By tomorrow, we will come out and know the level of damage they have done. Till now, we don’t know the sins we have committed that we deserve this kind of attack,” the source told newsmen.

When contacted, the Imo state Police Public Relations Officer, Micheal Abattam, did not respond.

Meanwhile, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in Rivers State revealed that 21 cows belonging to the union’s members were shot dead by unknown gunmen who invaded a settlement – Odogwa community – in the Etche Local Government Area of the state.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the association, Mohammed Abubakar, at a media briefing in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Abubakar said the incident occurred at about 9 pm on Wednesday when the cattle rearers went to town to buy some beverages, saying of the 21 cows killed, 15 were pregnant.

He expressed shock over the attack because according to him, the cattle rearers have been living in harmony with members of their host community.

He said, “They shot 21 cows and before the Miyetti Allah arrived, the gunmen had escaped.

“The cows were littered on the ground dead, just like that. Some just gave birth; some are pregnant. More than 15 were pregnant.”
