Insecurity: Terrorists Invade Catholic School in Niger, Abduct Students and Staff

An unspecified number of students and staff have been abducted from St. Mary’s School, a Catholic institution in Papiri community, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Friday, with sources confirming that several students were taken during the raid. A church official in Niger State acknowledged the incident but said an official statement would be released later.

The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said details would be provided in due course.

However, the Head of Disaster and Relief in Agwara Local Government, Ahmed Abdullahi Rofia, confirmed that the terrorists invaded the school between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. He noted that authorities were still assessing the actual number of abducted students and staff.

The incident comes shortly after a similar attack in Maga, Kebbi State, where 25 students were kidnapped, adding to rising concerns about worsening insecurity in schools across northern Nigeria.

In Kwara State, more than 50 schools were shut down on Thursday due to persistent bandit attacks.

Amid these developments, President Bola Tinubu cancelled his planned trips to South Africa and Angola to focus on the escalating security crisis.
