Iran has confirmed the death of a senior military figure following an Israeli airstrike, marking another escalation in the ongoing conflict.
According to Iranian authorities, Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the naval arm of the Revolutionary Guards, died from injuries sustained during the attack. He was reportedly linked to operations affecting the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

In a condolence message, Iran’s leader Mojtaba Khamenei praised Tangsiri as a loyal defender of the nation and Islam. Funeral arrangements have been scheduled to take place in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas.

On the Israeli side, Defence Minister Israel Katz had earlier confirmed the strike, describing Tangsiri as a key figure behind efforts to disrupt maritime activities in the Strait of Hormuz.

The development comes amid heightened tensions, with the conflict now in its second month. Iran has restricted ship movement through the vital waterway, contributing to rising global energy prices.

Iranian officials stated that Tangsiri was overseeing coastal defence operations at the time of the strike and vowed to continue their military efforts.
His death adds to a growing list of high-ranking Iranian officials reportedly killed during the conflict, further intensifying hostilities between the parties involved.

Despite these losses, analysts suggest Iran still retains the capacity to sustain its military operations, even as pressure from international actors continues to mount.
