FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has accused opposition figures of exploiting the U.S. designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” to push a political agenda against President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on Politics Today on Monday, Wike dismissed claims of Christian genocide in Nigeria as “politics taken too far.”
“It’s absurd to say the government I serve supports genocide,” he said. “The Inspector-General of Police, DSS Director-General, and Chief of Defence Staff are all Christians. How can anyone believe we would support killing our own people?”

Wike argued that the opposition was using the genocide narrative to undermine the president. “They know they can’t challenge him politically, so they resort to tactics that divide the country,” he said.
The minister urged Nigerians to reject foreign interference, warning that external military action—like in Libya or Iraq—would only destabilize the nation.
He stressed that no leader takes pleasure in the country’s insecurity and said the government is investing heavily to combat terrorism and restore peace.

His comments follow U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement placing Nigeria on the CPC list over alleged Christian persecution and warning of possible U.S. action if the killings continue.
