FEDERAL HIGH COURT WARN SOWORE AGAINST MAKING INFLAMMATORY STATEMENTS OR RISK BAIL REVOCATION
Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has warned that the bail granted to activist and politician Omoyele Sowore could be revoked if he continues to make statements considered inflammatory or harmful to national peace and security.

In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, the judge prohibited Sowore from making further statements against the nation that could incite unrest. Justice Umar noted that Sowore, a former presidential candidate, was entitled to bail on self-recognition, especially since the court already holds his international passport.

The ruling followed a bail application by Sowore’s lawyer, Marshall Abubakar, shortly after the activist was arraigned on a five-count charge. Sowore is accused of defaming President Bola Tinubu in posts on X and Facebook, describing the president as a criminal.

Prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS), Sowore pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him. The allegations claim that he violated provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024, and the Criminal Code Act.

The case, filed under number FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2025, also lists X Incorp (formerly Twitter) and Meta (Facebook) Incorp as co-defendants.
