Today is 7th of Jumaada al-Ahkhir 1447AH (28 November 2025) and a Day of Jumu’ah (Friday)
“The Book of Sacrificial Slaughter and Hunting (Kitabu al-Dhaba’ih wa al-Sayd)

Narrated Adi Bin Hatim:
I asked Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ), “We hunt with these hounds.” He said, “If you send your trained hounds after a game and mention Allah’s Name on sending, you can eat of what they catch for you. But if the hound eats of the game, then you must not eat of it, for I am afraid that the hound caught it for itself, and if another hound joins your hounds (during the hunt), you should not eat of the game.”

NOTE 📝
1.Imam al-Bukhari collected this hadith under the chapter ‘What Has Been Reported About Hunting,’. The Prophet ﷺ upheld the limits set by Allah exactly as the Almighty prescribed. He taught people the rulings and how to apply them, corrected their misunderstandings, and made clear to them that legislation comes only from Allah, the Exalted.
2.al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani explained while commenting this hadith that al-Munīr said that the purpose of this chapter heading is to highlight that engaging in hunting is legislated for those whose livelihood depends on it, and permissible for those who do it occasionally while earning their living through other means. However, hunting purely for recreation and amusement is an issue of scholarly disagreement. – Fathul Baari, Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani

3.The hadith teaches that hunting by a trained dog, falcon, or similar animal is lawful when Allah’s Name is mentioned at the time of release, whether the game is found alive or dead. Game killed jointly by trained and untrained animals is forbidden, as is any catch from an unknown dog or from a trained dog that ate from the prey, due to the possibility that it hunted for itself. Saying “Bismillah” is required when releasing an arrow or any modern hunting weapon, though forgetfulness and ignorance are excused. What is caught by a trained bird of prey is permissible even if it eats from it, but any game found alive must be slaughtered, and what is killed by the weapon’s sharp edge is lawful, while what dies from blunt force or from drowning when the cause of death is unclear is not permissible.

O Allah! We ask You for success in our efforts, blessing in our provision, and wisdom and sound judgment in all our affairs. Indeed, You are capable of all things, the All-Hearing, and the All-Knowing. Ãmeen
