JUST IN: ABDUCTED KWARA MONARCH REGAINS FREEDOM FROM BANDITS AFTER PAYING HUGE RANSOM.

The Ojibara of Bayagan Ile, Kamilu Salami, who was kidnapped by armed bandits nearly four weeks ago, has regained his freedom.

The traditional ruler was abducted on November 29, 2025, while attending to his farm. He returned to his community late on Tuesday night, bringing relief and excitement to residents who had anxiously awaited his release.

His return sparked widespread jubilation as community members flooded the palace to welcome their monarch and celebrate his safe homecoming. Many residents were seen congratulating the royal family and offering prayers of gratitude.

Confirming the development, a community representative, Ayinla Lawal, told Vanguard on Wednesday that the monarch was released after a substantial ransom was paid to the kidnappers in two separate payments.

According to Lawal, the entire amount was raised solely by members of the community, as neither the local nor state government intervened during the period of captivity.

“I am glad to announce that our monarch was freed on Tuesday night. The amount paid was very large, but our elders have agreed that it should not be disclosed,” he said.

“The burden fell entirely on the community, and that is why it took some time before his release. It was a very difficult period for us, but we thank God that he returned alive. We also appreciate the media and everyone who stood by us.”

The monarch’s younger brother, Aliyu, who transported him to a private hospital in Ilorin for medical care, also confirmed the release.

Aliyu recounted the fear and danger he faced while dealing with the kidnappers, explaining that their hideout was located in a remote area within Kwara State.

“The place is extremely far and difficult to identify because they keep changing locations. They contacted me through Kabiesi’s phone to give instructions on where to meet them,” he said.

“I was very scared at a point and wanted to stop going, but the community encouraged me since I am his immediate younger brother. Thankfully, I was not detained, and our monarch is back safely.”

Attempts to speak directly with the Ojibara were unsuccessful, as he is currently resting under medical supervision.

“You cannot see Kabiesi now; he needs time to recover,” Aliyu added.
