The Emir of Gusau in Zamfara State, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, has died at the age of 71 after a prolonged illness. He passed away on Friday in Abuja.
Appointed the 16th Emir of Gusau on March 16, 2015, following the death of his father, Bello served the emirate for a decade. Prior to ascending the throne, he built a notable career in the civil service, rising to the position of Permanent Secretary in both the old Sokoto State and later in Zamfara State.
Reacting to the sad news, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, through his spokesperson Sulaiman Idris, expressed profound grief and extended condolences to the royal family, the Gusau Emirate Council, and the entire people of Zamfara State.
“I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau,” the governor said.
He described the late Emir as a pillar of leadership whose decade-long reign was marked by dedication, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to the people.
“His Highness’s passing is a tremendous loss, not only to Zamfara but also to the North and the entire nation. He served his people faithfully for 10 years after being appointed as the 15th Emir of Gusau. He led with integrity, humility, and deep religious devotion,” the statement added.
Governor Lawal also paid tribute to the late monarch’s personal influence, saying, “I have lost a confidant and a father whose wisdom has guided me and other leaders in the state. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”
