JUST IN: Former customs comptroller-general Ahmed Aliyu Mustapha is dead

Nigeria has lost a prominent public servant with the death of Ahmed Aliyu Mustapha, former Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

The news of his passing was confirmed by Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, in a statement posted on his official social media accounts on Thursday.

Governor Fintiri expressed deep sorrow over the death of the former Customs boss, describing him as “a man of service, dignity, and duty.”

“Deeply saddened by the passing of Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Musdafa, former CG of Customs. A man of service, dignity & duty whose legacy will live on. My prayers are with Lamido Adamawa, the Musdafa royal family & all who mourn him. May Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus,” the governor wrote.

Royal Lineage and Public Service

Mustapha was an elder brother to the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, and held the highly respected traditional title of Sardauna Adamawa.

He joined the Nigeria Customs Service as a young cadet and rose steadily through the ranks, eventually being appointed Comptroller-General in 1999, at the onset of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic.

Career Achievements

During his tenure, Mustapha was credited with strengthening anti-smuggling operations and playing pivotal roles in various national task forces established to combat economic sabotage. His outstanding service earned him the Ministerial Award for Outstanding Performance in 1988.

After more than three decades of service, he retired in December 2003, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and dedication.

A Respected Elder Statesman

In retirement, Mustapha remained an influential figure within both the Customs community and the Adamawa Emirate. His counsel was highly sought, and he continued to be revered until his passing.

Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Mustapha is remembered not only as a Customs officer who served with distinction, but also as a traditional leader who embodied dignity and commitment to his people.
