JUST IN: Humanitarian Affairs Minister Nentawe replaces Ganduje as APC national chairman

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Nentawe Yilwatda, has been officially named the new national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His emergence was confirmed on Thursday during the APC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, where party leaders convened to strategize ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yilwatda’s appointment was adopted as a consensus decision by the NEC—a move described by party leaders as both practical and symbolic. He succeeds Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, who stepped down from the position on June 27, 2025.

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, who chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), nominated Yilwatda. The nomination was seconded by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas.

A former gubernatorial candidate in Plateau State and a respected academic, Yilwatda is known for his loyalty to the party, calm demeanor, and strong grasp of policy issues.

His leadership is anticipated to mark a more strategic and less confrontational era for the APC as it prepares for future electoral battles and internal restructuring.
