#JUST IN: Katsina Council Chairman Dies Weeks After Taking Office

Hon. Aminu Dan Hamidu, the recently elected Chairman of Bakori Local Government Area in Katsina State, has passed away, barely two months after assuming office.

Hamidu, who was sworn in in April 2025 following the February local government elections, died on Monday, June 9, 2025. While the cause of death has not been officially confirmed, sources suggest he had been battling an undisclosed illness for some time.

The news of his passing was confirmed in a statement by Kaula Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.

In his tribute, Governor Radda expressed profound grief over the loss, describing Hamidu as “a loyal party man, a seasoned civil servant, and a grassroots politician who served with honesty, humility, and uncommon dedication.”

The governor’s statement read in part:
“Today, Katsina has lost one of its most committed and selfless sons. Hon. Hamidu was a quiet achiever who upheld the values of integrity, transparency, and people-first leadership. His death is a painful loss—not only to Bakori but to the entire state.”

Despite his brief tenure, the governor noted that Hamidu left behind a legacy of purposeful leadership and a strong commitment to community development.

“He never sought the spotlight,” Governor Radda said. “He let his actions speak. In just a short time, he demonstrated what sincere leadership truly looks like.”

On behalf of the government and people of Katsina State, the governor extended heartfelt condolences to the late chairman’s family, the people of Bakori LGA, and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state.

“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdausi,” the governor prayed. “We will remember him for his modesty, dedication, and the love he had for his people.”
