#JUST IN: NJC Issues New Rules On Election Cases As Senate Amends Electoral Act

The National Judicial Council (NJC), has issued “Policy Directions” on political and election-related cases to heads of courts nationwide.

This was disclosed on Wednesday by the NJC spokesperson, Soji Oye on a Channels TV programme.

The development is coming a day after the Nigeria senate amended the Electoral Act, 2022, to allow “statutory delegates” otherwise called elected government officials to participate and vote in the conventions, congresses or meetings of political parties.

Those identified as ‘statutory delegates’ include the President, Vice President, Members of the National Assembly, Governors and their deputies, Members of the State Houses of Assembly, Chairmen of Councils, Councillors, and National Working Committee of political parties, amongst others.

The senate claimed the move was to give everyone the right to actively participate in elections at the party level.
