The Federal Government of Nigeria under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has fired back at Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo over his recent comments on the present security crisis in Nigeria.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo in a recent speech said that President Buhari has nothing more to offer to Nigerian in regards to insecurity and Nigerians should not expect more as he has done his best.
In his words, he said: “President Buhari has done his best, that is what he can do, if you expect anything more than what he has done or what he is doing, you are kicking a dead horse. And there’s no need”
Ex-President Obasanjo also stated that Nigeria needs to prepare for the Post-Buhari era to make it better than the present situation.
He said: “But then, where do we go from here? We cannot continue to fold our arms. How do we prepare for the post-Buhari era? Buhari has done his best. My prayer is that God will spare his life to see his term through.
“What should we do to make post-Buhari better than what we have now? That is our responsibility now because it concerns all of us.”
Reacting to the Former President’s statement, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture described the statement as “untrue, fallacious and smacks of dirty politicking”.
The Minister said: “If anybody is worried today about the security situation of the country, it is Mr. President.
“Gentlemen, President Buhari has done so much, under very difficult economic and social conditions, to tackle insecurity in our country.
“Not only has he done so much. President Buhari continues to do much more to keep Nigerians safe. To say he has nothing more to offer is untrue, fallacious and smacks of dirty politicking.
“By boosting the number and capacity of our fighting forces, Mr. President is putting them in good stead to tackle insecurity not just during the life of his administration but long after he would have left office.”
