JUST IN: SENATE OKAYS OKE, ARE, DALHATU FOR APPOINTMENT AS AMBASSADORS

The Senate on Tuesday gave its approval to the nomination of three individuals—Ayodele Oke, retired Colonel Kayode Are, and Amin Dalhatu—for appointment as ambassadors.

The approval came after lawmakers reviewed and adopted the report of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, which was presented during plenary by the committee’s chairman, Senator Abubakar Sani Bello.

Oke, a former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency and Nigeria’s ex-ambassador to the Commonwealth Secretariat in London; Are, who previously served as Director-General of the Department of State Services; and Dalhatu, the immediate past Nigerian ambassador to South Korea, all received unanimous backing when Senate President Godswill Akpabio subjected their nominations to a voice vote.

While addressing the chamber, Akpabio called on the ambassadors-designate to deploy their extensive professional experience in advancing Nigeria’s diplomatic interests in their respective assignments.
