The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), under the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike, has sealed Wadata Plaza, the building housing the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, due to unpaid ground rent and tenancy fees.
This action comes as part of a broader enforcement exercise that began today, May 26, 2025, targeting over 4,700 properties across the capital. The move was earlier announced by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, alongside the Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, and the Director of the Department of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima.
In addition to the PDP headquarters, other high-profile properties—including an Access Bank branch and a Total petrol station in Zone 6, Wuse—were also sealed. Official records show that the property used by Access Bank is actually allocated to Rana Tahir Furniture Nigeria Limited, not the bank itself.
A letter dated March 13, 2025, signed by Director Nwankwoeze, cited decades of rent default as the reason for the action. “The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has, in exercise of powers under the Land Use Act No. 6 of 1978, Cap. L5, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, revoked your rights, interests, and privileges over Plot No. 2456 within Wuse I, Cadastral Zone A02, Abuja,” the letter read.
It added that the revocation was prompted by the failure to pay annual ground rent for 34 consecutive years, a direct violation of the Right of Occupancy terms.
The FCTA also sealed the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) office in Abuja for similar rent-related violations.
According to FCTA officials, multiple notices and public announcements have been issued since 2023, warning property owners and allottees to settle outstanding ground rent liabilities or face enforcement action.
