Kaduna man drags daughter’s boyfriend to court for alleged misuse of funds

A man, Ishaku Joseph, has taken his daughter’s boyfriend, Yunana Zock, to a Customary Court in Kaduna State over allegations of misappropriating his late wife’s death benefits.

At Monday’s hearing, the prosecutor, ASP Jeremiah Amfani, told the court that Zock deceived Joseph’s daughter, Emmanuella, and withdrew ₦13 million paid in 2023 as her mother’s death benefits. The money had been deposited in Emmanuella’s account because she was listed as her late mother’s next of kin.

Amfani said the matter was reported by Joseph and later investigated by the police.

Testifying before the court, Emmanuella claimed the defendant took her ATM card without her knowledge and withdrew the funds.

The defendant also tendered his Opay account statement, which was admitted as evidence, and informed the court that he intended to call one witness in his defence.

Presiding Judge, Ms. Patience Musa, adjourned the case until September 30 for continuation oft he defence.
