KANO ASSEMBLY DENIES DEPUTY GOV IMPEACHMENT RUMORS

The Kano State House of Assembly has dismissed media reports suggesting a move to impeach the State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.

Kamaluddeen Shawai, the Public Relations Officer of the Assembly, clarified the matter to journalists in Kano on Saturday, describing the reports as “baseless and misleading.” He emphasized that there is no plan or motion to remove the deputy governor.

“The reports circulating in some media outlets alleging an attempt to impeach the Deputy Governor are aimed at creating unnecessary tension in the state,” Shawai said. “There is absolutely no initiative within the House to remove him. These reports are false and should be ignored by the public. The Deputy Governor continues to serve fully supported by the House.”

Shawai also urged the public and media practitioners to verify information before sharing it, highlighting the role of accurate reporting in maintaining political stability.

He added that the Assembly remains committed to its legislative duties and oversight responsibilities rather than engaging in speculative political manoeuvres. “Our priority is good governance and serving the people of Kano, not spreading rumours,” he said.

Although the Deputy Governor has not publicly addressed the impeachment claims, insiders within the state government confirmed that he remains actively involved in government programs and official engagements.

The clarification comes after the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, recently called on the deputy governor to resign for not following Governor Abba Yusuf in defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Governor Yusuf, along with 22 State Assembly members, eight House of Representatives members, and 44 local government chairmen, officially joined the ruling APC on January 26.
