Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, has officially resigned from his position. The announcement was made through a statement by Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, on Friday.

The statement noted that the decision, though challenging, was taken in the best interest of the public and to ensure the smooth functioning of governance in the state. It explained that recent circumstances had limited the effectiveness of the office, making the resignation necessary for optimal administration.

The movement clarified that Abdussalam’s resignation does not imply an admission of allegations brought against him by the Kano State House of Assembly. He maintains his innocence, emphasizing that his record in public service reflects his integrity and dedication.

The resignation was described as an act of statesmanship intended to preserve peace and prevent political tensions that could hinder governance and development.
Moving forward, Abdussalam plans to dedicate more time to strengthening the Kwankwasiyya Movement, rebuilding strategies, and preparing for the 2027 general elections.

Abdussalam, a member of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), had declined to follow Governor Abba Yusuf and other officials in defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier this year. His resignation comes after the Kano State House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against him over alleged misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust during his tenure as Commissioner for Local Government Affairs from 2023 to 2024.
