The Kano State Government has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order the removal of Emir Aminu Ado Bayero from the Nasarawa Palace, alleging that his continued presence is fueling unrest in the state.
Speaking at the Kano Government House during the distribution of relief materials by Hon. Kabiru Dahiru Sule, Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo urged the president to take immediate action to restore peace and stability.
State Government’s Position
Gwarzo criticized the deployment of security forces to disperse peaceful protesters, condemning reports of teargas and live ammunition being used against demonstrators.
“We are calling on President Tinubu to remove the emir he enthroned and kept in a graveyard,” Gwarzo declared.
“The people of Kano, especially the youth, are tired of this injustice. This is a democracy, and no amount of intimidation will silence the people. We stand with the youth expressing their grievances.”
Call for Emir’s Removal
Gwarzo insisted that Kano already has an emir—Muhammadu Sanusi II—and accused certain individuals of deliberately keeping Bayero in Nasarawa Palace to destabilize the state government.
“The president should take the emir he appointed to his own state. In Kano, only the governor has the authority to appoint an emir,” he added.
The Kano State Government maintains that the law facilitated the appointment of the former Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and the same law has now reinstated him. Therefore, they insist that the rule of law must be upheld.
The state government also condemned the security crackdown on protesters, asserting that peaceful demonstrations are a fundamental right in a democracy.
Final Demand to Tinubu
Reiterating its stance, the government called on President Tinubu to act swiftly in removing Emir Aminu Ado Bayero to prevent further unrest and ensure the stability of the state.
