Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, citing his absence and the withdrawal of police personnel during Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration in Kano.
Addressing the public at Sani Abacha Stadium, Governor Yusuf expressed frustration over the absence of the police commissioner and his team during the event. “On this historic Independence Day, the Commissioner of Police decided to pull out of the parade along with his personnel for reasons known only to him,” Yusuf stated. “As the Chief Security Officer of Kano State, I, on behalf of the government and the people of Kano, condemn this unprofessional and disloyal behavior toward the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The governor urged President Tinubu to act swiftly, saying, “I call on the President to remove the state Commissioner of Police.” He emphasized that Kano remains a peaceful state and urged security agencies to focus on their duties rather than engaging in partisan politics. “The people of Kano are peace-loving, and security agencies should not involve themselves in politics, which harms both Kano and Nigeria,” Yusuf added.
