Governor Abba Yusuf, along with members of the state assembly, federal lawmakers, local government chairmen, councillors, and several political appointees, has moved from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The decision, according to the defectors, was influenced by the need to promote stability and accelerate development in the state.

The move has stirred reactions within Kano’s political landscape, particularly among loyalists of the Kwankwasiyya Movement. In response, Mustapha Kwankwaso stepped down from his role as Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, citing concerns over divided loyalties.

While some members followed the governor into the APC, others remained aligned with their former political structure, with meetings held among those who chose not to defect.

At the reception ceremony, APC leaders welcomed Governor Yusuf and his supporters, describing the move as bold and strategic. The governor pledged to collaborate closely with the federal government to improve governance, enhance security, and deliver more benefits to the people of Kano State.

He explained that his decision was based on prioritizing progress and aligning with a political platform he described as structured for effective governance. He also announced plans to establish a council of elders to foster unity and stability within the state.

Party leaders urged members to unite behind the governor, emphasizing the importance of cohesion ahead of future elections. They expressed confidence that the defection would strengthen the party’s position in Kano and improve its chances in upcoming polls.

Elsewhere, similar political developments were recorded in other states, with prominent figures and stakeholders joining the APC and pledging support for the current administration’s agenda. These moves are seen as part of broader efforts to consolidate political strength ahead of the next general elections.
