KANO SOUTH CONSTITUENTS REJECT FIVE BAGS OF RICE DONATED BY SENATOR SUMAILA

Residents of Kano South Senatorial District in Kano have publicly rejected five bags of rice reportedly donated by their representative in the Senate of Nigeria, Kawu Sumaila.

The residents, many of whom identified themselves as members of the All Progressives Congress, said they were disappointed that despite voting massively for the senator, they now felt abandoned and left to face economic hardship.

In a video circulating online, community members and party officials, speaking in Hausa, openly criticised the lawmaker and asked his representatives to return and collect the donated rice.

During the gathering, a man identified as a councillor spoke on behalf of the party leadership in the area, describing the position as the collective stance of the APC structure in the district.

“On behalf of the entire leadership of the party and members within the APC who are together with His Excellency, Governor Engineer Abubakar Yusuf, we want to confirm that we appreciate the gift that Kawu Sumaila gave us — five bags of rice,” the councillor said.

“We are grateful. Thank you very much. May God reward you. Please come and take it back and give it to Sumaila. Although we know that what was given cannot be enough for them, come and take this and give it to your people.”

Another resident also criticised the senator, accusing him of neglecting the community despite the support he received during the election.

“For the sake of our rights and what has happened, we voted for him, yet he is now making us suffer,” the resident said.

“As for what exists between us and him, we leave it to God.”

The speaker further rejected the donation outright and asked the senator’s representatives to retrieve the rice.

“The rice he brought and distributed, we do not want it. His representative should come and take it back,” he added.

He also warned that the community would respond politically to the senator’s actions in the future.

“As for what he has done to us, God willing, politically we will respond to him for what he has done,” he said.

The incident highlights growing frustration among some residents in the district who accuse the senator of neglecting the community despite their electoral support.
