The royal couple’s Vatican visit had been planned for April but was postponed due to the ill health of Pope Francis. Before his death, they were able to meet privately with him during their trip to Italy.

According to Buckingham Palace, the October visit will highlight ecumenical cooperation between the Church of England and the Catholic Church, in line with the Jubilee’s theme of “walking together as pilgrims of hope.”

Charles, as Supreme Governor of the Church of England, has met several popes in the past, including during his time as Prince of Wales. He is expected to deepen religious dialogue through this visit.
