The Kuwaiti Air Defence Force has intercepted and destroyed multiple Iranian ballistic missiles and drones targeting the country amid rising regional hostilities, the Ministry of Defence confirmed on Sunday.

Colonel Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi, spokesperson for the Ministry, stated on the Kuwait Army’s X account that 97 ballistic missiles and 283 drones launched from Iran toward Kuwait were detected and neutralized under established rules of engagement. Most threats were intercepted mid-air, though some debris caused minor damage to scattered facilities.

The Army’s General Staff urged residents to rely on official information sources and avoid spreading unverified reports.

The attacks come after the United States and Israel carried out airstrikes on Iran, hitting Tehran and other cities, and killing top Iranian leaders including the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran launched waves of missiles and drones aimed at U.S. military bases across the Gulf region, including Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, and Al Dhafra Air Base in the UAE. Explosions were also reported near the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters in Manama, Bahrain.

The strikes caused panic in Gulf cities, triggering alarms and visible smoke, and raised concerns of a broader conflict as these host nations, though not directly involved in the U.S.-Israeli strikes, became drawn into the escalating confrontation.
