Kwankwasiyya Leader in Kano Defects from NNPP to APC

Alhaji Amadu Danfulani, a prominent leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Gobirawa Ward, Dala Local Government Area of Kano, has left the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). The defection was announced on Tuesday, September 30, at the APC headquarters on Hotoro-Maiduguri Road in Kano.

Danfulani expressed frustration with the leadership of Rabiu Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, and the party’s governance in Kano, citing “anti-people policies and programs” as the reason for his departure. He was joined by thousands of supporters in switching allegiance to the APC.

The event was attended by key APC figures, including Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Ungoggo, the party’s Kano Central Zonal Chairman, representing APC State Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, and Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, Managing Director of Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority. Other attendees included Alhaji Labaran Kura, the Kano State and Northwest Zonal APC Youth Leader, as well as the APC chairmen for Dala LGA and Gobirawa Ward. They warmly welcomed Danfulani and other defectors.

Abbas, through his representative, reiterated that the APC’s doors are open to new members from opposition parties, provided they adhere to the party’s rules and constitution. He noted that even Kwankwaso, a former Kano governor, would be welcome to join under the same conditions.

Speculation about Kwankwaso’s potential defection to the APC has intensified, with reports of meetings between him and President Bola Tinubu. However, Kwankwaso recently denied submitting any letter of intent to join the APC, dismissing such claims on social media. His statement has sparked mixed reactions, particularly in Kano.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement, a strong force in the 2023 elections, has seen several key defections since the polls, marking a significant shift in Kano’s political landscape.
