KWANKWASO’S DEFECTION: WE’VE BEEN VINDICATED THAT NNPP ISN’T VIABLE — MOHAMMED JAMO

Mohammed Jamo, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that recent political shifts, including Musa Kwankwaso’s move from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), confirm that Governor Abba Yusuf made the right choice in leaving the party.

Jamo explained that the NNPP is no longer a sustainable platform for political engagement. He recalled that when Governor Yusuf and his allies exited the NNPP months ago, the decision faced heavy criticism, especially from supporters of the Kwankwasiyya movement.

“Looking at recent developments, it is clear that leaving the NNPP was the correct move,” Jamo said. He added that Nigerians following the situation would see that the defection occurred at the right moment and in the interest of governance in Kano State.

The NNPP, which had performed strongly in the 2023 general elections through the Kwankwasiyya movement, has been facing leadership disputes and internal tensions. Governor Yusuf officially resigned from the NNPP in January 2026 before joining the APC with several lawmakers and local government officials.

Adding to the party’s challenges, Musa Kwankwaso also joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) recently, urging his supporters to follow, signaling a broader opposition reshuffle ahead of the 2027 elections.
