La Liga: Atletico Humble Real Madrid 5-2 In Thrilling Derby

Atletico Madrid ended Real Madrid’s perfect start to the La Liga season with a stunning 5-2 victory in the Madrid derby at the Metropolitano on Saturday.

Robin Le Normand headed Atletico in front before Kylian Mbappe equalised and Arda Guler put Real ahead. Alexander Sorloth struck just before halftime to level the score at 2-2.

Julian Alvarez then took charge, converting a penalty and curling in a free-kick to put Atletico firmly in control. Antoine Griezmann sealed the emphatic win late on, sparking jubilant celebrations from Diego Simeone and the home supporters.

Despite Mbappe reaching eight league goals for the season, Real Madrid were second-best throughout, with Jude Bellingham struggling on his return from shoulder surgery. The defeat was their first against Atletico by such a margin since 1950.

The victory lifted Atletico to fourth in the table, while Real’s loss gives Barcelona the chance to move top if they defeat Real Sociedad on Sunday.

Real defender Dani Carvajal admitted the setback was painful but vowed the team would respond: “Few words can console us, but tomorrow the sun will come out and we will work harder than ever.”
