The Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will grace his coronation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, scheduled to hold on September 26, 2025, at Mapo Hall, Ibadan.
Oba Ladoja, a former senator and ex-governor of Oyo State, disclosed this while receiving a delegation from Ode-Omu, Osun State, at his Bodija residence in Ibadan on Tuesday. The delegation, led by the Balogun of Ode-Omu, Chief Adebayo Adeyinfa, congratulated him and offered prayers for a successful reign.
Calls for Support
In the buildup to his coronation, Oba Ladoja has sought the support of eminent Yoruba intellectuals and leaders, including Prof. Tunde Adeniran, Dr. Yemi Farounbi, and Prof. Soji Adejumo. He appealed to them to stand by him in order to ensure a peaceful, united, and prosperous Ibadanland.
“I will need the backing of intellectuals and elders to guide my reign so that the throne of Ibadan remains strong and independent. My role will be that of a coordinator, not a dictator,” the Olubadan-designate said.
Tributes from Leaders
During a congratulatory visit, Prof. Adeniran hailed Ladoja as “a unique gift not only to Ibadanland but also to Yorubaland, Nigeria, and Africa.” He praised his academic background, business success, and political credibility, stressing that his wide networks would be of immense benefit to the people.
Dr. Farounbi, on his part, noted that Ibadan has long awaited this moment, describing Ladoja as a custodian of cherished Yoruba values. He emphasized that Ibadan, as the cradle of Yoruba identity, must remain a beacon of peace and unity.
Unity and Security
Oba Ladoja also called on all stakeholders in Ibadan and Yorubaland to work together to defend their heritage, preserve peace, and ensure security. He highlighted that only through unity and cooperation can true development be achieved.
Widespread Endorsements
Beyond intellectual circles, organizations have also expressed support for the Olubadan-designate. The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Oyo State branch, lauded his selection, describing him as a leader with humility, fairness, and experience. They stressed that his emergence came at a crucial time for strengthening traditional institutions in Yorubaland.
Looking Ahead
With the stage set for the historic coronation, expectations are high across Yorubaland. The presence of President Tinubu and other dignitaries at the Mapo Hall ceremony is expected to underscore the significance of Oba Ladoja’s ascension to the revered throne of Ibadanland.
