Lagos APC Criticizes Sowore’s Planned ‘Release Nnamdi Kanu’ Protest as Opportunistic

On October 18, 2025, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) condemned activist Omoyele Sowore’s planned ‘Release Nnamdi Kanu’ protest, labeling it a bid for attention and an insult to the Igbo people.

In a statement by Publicity Secretary Seye Oladejo, the APC criticized Sowore, who lacks cultural or political ties to the Southeast, for positioning himself as a spokesperson for Ndigbo, calling it a mockery of their intellect and history.

Oladejo questioned Sowore’s motives, noting that Kanu’s case is under judicial review and should not be tried through protests or social media. He accused Sowore of undermining democracy and the rule of law, describing his activism as “noisy, shallow, and opportunistic.” The APC urged Nigerians to dismiss Sowore’s actions as irrelevant theatrics and emphasized that the Tinubu administration remains committed to justice and national order through legal processes. Oladejo stressed that Ndigbo are capable of addressing their challenges with dignity, without Sowore’s “social media dramatics.”
