A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of three Lagos State House of Assembly workers in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly assaulting DSS officers.
Justice Daniel Osiagor directed the detention of Ibrahim Olanrewaju, Adetu Adekunle, and Fatimoh Adetola after the DSS, represented by counsel Michael Bajela, sought their arraignment. The judge, however, opted to review the case file before proceeding. The trio will remain in custody pending their arraignment tomorrow.
According to the charges, marked FHC/L/273C/2025, the DSS accused the defendants, along with others still at large, of conspiring to attack its officers while they were performing official duties at the Lagos State House of Assembly on February 17, 2025.
The agency further alleged that the defendants obstructed DSS officers without justification and engaged in cyberstalking by recording and disseminating false information on social media. This act, according to the DSS, was intended to incite public unrest and embarrass the agency.
Additionally, the DSS claimed that Olanrewaju and Adekunle used an iPhone 12 Pro Max to record and circulate misleading content online, while Adekunle allegedly used a Tecno POP 8 for a similar purpose.
The charges cite violations of Section 516 of the Criminal Code Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (2004), as well as Sections 27(1)(b), 24(1)(b), 24(c)(i), and 11 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 (as amended in 2024).
The case highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding the Lagos Assembly speakership crisis, with political and security forces closely monitoring developments.
