LAGOS CCTV SURVEILLANCE CENTRE WILL ENHANCE CRIME PREVENTION — POLICE

The Lagos State Police Command has announced that its newly activated Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Surveillance Centre will strengthen security and improve real-time crime prevention across Lagos Island and surrounding areas.

The development was shared by the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, in a post on X on Sunday. The facility was officially activated on January 14, 2026, under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, as part of ongoing efforts to modernise policing through technology.

“In a significant step toward technology-driven policing, the Lagos State Police Command has launched a CCTV Surveillance Centre to boost security across Lagos Island and its environs,” the statement read.

Serving also as Control Room 5, the surveillance centre enables continuous monitoring of strategic locations, including the Third Mainland Bridge, nearby waterways, and other high-risk areas. The facility is designed to prevent crime proactively and safeguard lives and property.

The centre was built and fully equipped by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Works, under the oversight of Minister Dave Umahi. It operates around the clock and is staffed by trained officers to ensure prompt, intelligence-led responses to any security incidents.

“The centre operates 24/7 with trained personnel to guarantee rapid response and effective intelligence deployment,” the police said.

To further support operational efficiency, two vehicles were handed over to the Lagos State Police Command on January 16, 2026, to enhance mobility and response times.

The command also encouraged residents to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities through official emergency lines.

“Members of the public are urged to partner with the police by promptly reporting any suspicious activities via the Command’s emergency numbers,” the statement added.
